The People You Meet

An artist, a carver, named Norman, purchased our float home, Ziggaratus, from the original owner; he then spent ten years working on Ziggy’s charm. The copper roof, sleeping loft, and renovated bathroom are all his contributions. He was quite well known for his spectacular masks and finely made carving tools.

As the story goes, Norman had wandered over to Barb’s Fish and Chips one day and got chatting with another customer who said he’d really like to see inside the float home, and so Norman invited him over to have a look.

When the stranger arrived, he introduced himself, “Hi, I’m Leonard Cohen”. Unfazed, Norman proceeded to give him the two-second tour and they sat chatting for half an hour over a cup of tea.

Years later, Norman visited us at our float home to deliver an adorable stool that he had built and used while living here - he felt it needed to stay with Ziggaratus. We covet the stool as a piece of history, and understand why everyone, even legends, want to see inside our Ziggy.
